Fundación Secretariado Gitano takes part in a conference on “Training, development and labour market integration of disadvantaged young people” in Budapest

On 20 September, Autonomia Foundation, one of our partners in the project “Find your way to the world of work”, organised a conference in Budapest (Hungary) focused on the employment of disadvantaged young people with difficulties entering the labour market, searching for solutions and models of best practice in organisations in different European countries.

Autonomia Foundation presented the approach and objectives of the project “Find your way to the world of work”: vocational education, skill development and employment of disadvantaged young people in four European countries. The Foundation also reported the methodology and results of a closed project on the employment of highly educated young Roma in the business sector.

Experts and project partners from Hungary and other European countries were invited to talk about their best practices. For our part, we were featured in a round table discussion where we shared experiences in developing employment programmes, such as “Learning at Work”, an employment training initiative aimed at unemployed young people between the ages of 18 and 30 years in a situation of social difficulty. This particular initiative alternates theoretical training with practical training in real work environments.

The conference was opened by Olav Berstad, Norwegian Ambassador to Hungary, and Dominique Bé from the European Commission's Directorate-General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion. It also saw the participation of several European experts on education, employment and youth.

“Find Your Way to the World of Work” is a project is funded by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through the EEA Norway Grants Fund for Youth Employment
