Mercedes Santiago Lozano, first Roma woman leading a high representatives position in the government of the Generalitat Valenciana [editar]

She has been, until now, coordinator of Education programs of the Fundación Secretariado Gitano (FSG) in Alicante, and now she has been appointed as General Director of the Elderly people affairs.

Mercedes Santiago Lozano, first Roma woman leading a high representatives position in the government of the Generalitat Valenciana

Mercedes Santiago Lozano, until now coordinator of Education programs of the FSG in Alicante, has been appointed as General Director of the Elderly people affairs, within the Vice Presidency and Department of Equality and Inclusive Policies of the Generalitat Valenciana.

On August 2, the Consell of Generalitat Valenciana announced the approval of 8 new appointments of senior positions within its structure. Among them is the Director General of the Elderly people affairs, within the Vice Presidency and Department of Equality and Inclusive Policies of the Generalitat Valenciana, a position that a Roma person will perform for the first time: Mercedes Santiago Lozano.

Mercedes Santiago is a social educator and expert in social intervention with the Roma community, comes from the Fundación Secretariado Gitano de Alicante, where she has performed various functions since 2005. She has previously worked at the Unión Romaní association in Córdoba, at the City Council of this city and other entities.
