Today´s event commemorates the ten editions of this Diploma of the public University of Navarre and Fundación Secretariado Gitano, supported by the Ministry of Health, Consumers and Social Welfare

Almost 300 Roma students have participated in the 10 editions of the Diploma Course in social intervention with the Roma community
  • 77% of the former students of the course surveyed consider that it has had a "high or very high" impact in the improvement of their professional competencies.

  • 33 people from 9 regions participate in this edition of the course.

Fundación Secretariado Gitano (FSG), the Public University of Navarra (UPNA) and the Ministry of Health, Consumers and Social Welfare, celebrate today the tenth edition of the Diploma Course in social intervention with the Roma community at an event in the University of Pamplona.

In these 10 years 340 students have taken this course, of which 295 are of Roma origin and have been granted a scholarship. More than half of the students have or are studying for a University degree and another 14% have finished or are taking a Higher Degree course.

The objective of the Course in Social Intervention with the Roma Community is to offer an high quality, innovative and specialized training that allows professionals to manage teams and develop intervention programmes with the Roma community. In addition, its online format allows access to any professional in Spain who wants to receive training in social intervention issues or expand their knowledge.

Impact and results of the ten editions

This diploma guarantees the training of professionals in a field for which, currently, there is no training offer as well as the improvement of the professional skills of the Roma population, in general, and of Roma women, in particular. Women have been a majority in all editions of the course and have come to represent around 80% of people enrolled in some of the editions.

According to the evaluation report of the ten editions of this degree that was presented at the event, 77% of the (former)students surveyed who have taken the course believe it has improved considerably their professional skills as shows the fact that 60% of them have gotten a permanent job after completing the course.
