Marina Carmona and Soleá Morente join forces with Fundación Secretariado Gitano to launch #GitanasEnEstereo, a support movement for the equality of Roma women

Together they launched the song "Telarañas" and donate all their rights to support projects with Roma girls and women.

Fundación Secretariado Gitano has presented a new campaign #GitanasEnEstéreo, which seeks to become a movement of support and vindication for the equality of Roma women.

The campaign is called #GitanasEnestéreo and the objective is to break down stereotypes, reclaim the diversity of Roma women, highlight the achievements made; draw attention to the inequality and discrimination that many of them face and make visible the need to continue working for equal opportunities and the defense of the rights of Roma women.

The main piece of this campaign is the video clip of the song "Telarañas", a theme full of optimism and vindication that Marina Carmona has composed especially for #GitanasEnEstéreo and she performs along with Soleá Morente.

"If the Roma community in Spain is one of the most vulnerable and discriminated against social groups, the situation of Roma women is even more worrisome. If the inequality of women is a clear fact in our society, in the case of Roma women it is even greater. Roma women have made great strides in recent years, but there is still a lot to be done to achieve equality, "says Sara Giménez, Director of the Equality and Anti-Discrimination Department of the Fundación Secretariado Gitano.

A situation of inequality and social disadvantage that is determined by their status as women and Roma. For being women in a patriarchal society; for belonging to an ethnic minority that receives the worst social assessment; for belonging to a minority in which, in many cases, very marked gender roles are maintained that limit the personal development of the roma woman and her possibilities of promotion.

With this campaign the Fundación Secretariado Gitano wants to raise funds to continue working together with Roma women. "Every year we work together with more than 17,000 Roma girls and women. Women who are giving a new meaning to the Roma identity and are becoming references within and outside their own community, also contributing to the evolution of the Roma people. Supporting our work is to support the equality of Roma women” Says Sara Giménez.
