FSG
FSG received from the hands of the Kings, the Princess of Girona Foundation (FPdGi) 2015 Award in the category of "Entity" for its trajectory in favor of the youth and its work in promoting social inclusion and equal opportunities for the Roma community.
Chaired by Their Majesties King Felipe VI and Letizia, the ceremony was held on June 25th at the Palace of Congress in Girona. It was the first day of the sixth edition of the international meeting Forum Impulsa 2015. This meeting gathers prominent personalities of the social, cultural and science areas to share their experiences with more than 800 young participants.
The FPdGi, whose honorary president is Leonor de Borbón y Ortiz, Princess of Asturias and Girona, awarded the 2015 Award Entity to the FSG for its career in favor of youth, especially in the promotion of entrepreneurship, employability and employment, education and school success, dedication and talent. In this respect the King Philip VI, he expressed in his words: "We are aware that there are young people who have had fewer opportunities. We do not forget them, so also this year PGiF has recognized the work of an entity, the Fundación Secretariado Gitano who has contributed to full citizenship of the Roma". In this way its main programs such as “Acceder” the program for the professional training and employment development, “Promociona” education program, which aims to contribute to school success of Roma youth, or more recent initiatives such as “Learning by doing” are evidence its labor for the inclusion of young people socially disadvantaged.
The open call for this edition of the awards received a total of 167 candidates, 31 of whom have chosen to award in the category Entity.
In the words of Pedro Puente, president of FSG "This award means a recognition and impetus to the ongoing work of our organization for over thirty years in favor of inclusion and recognition of the Roma community to achieve full citizenship". "An award," he continues, "that we appreciate and share with the Roma people who have supported us over the years, institutions, organizations, companies and our partners and members. Your trust and support is essential to promote actions that we implement and advances we got. "
FPdGi prizes are awarded annually with the aim to promote and encourage initiative and effort, scientific research and artistic creativity, solidarity and the development of talented young entrepreneurs and innovators who show concern to build a fairer world in a globalized environment, and have the ability to take risks and motivation to bring about change in society.
In addition, FPdGi Awards, endowed with 10,000 euros and a reproduction of a work of sculptor Juan Muñoz, recognize innovative and exemplary career of young people aged 16-35 in the categories of Arts and Letters, Social, Scientific Research and Business.
A clear commitment to investment in jobs and education to help transform the situation of the Roma community in Spain and the future of the Roma youth, is what drives the work of the FSG.
In time of crisis such as we are facing, in 2014 the FSG has made employment programs where 3,292 people found a job and more than 5,000 contracts were signed.
Since 2013, the FSG has a new and intense training and employment initiative with excellent results such as “Learning by doing” program, currently developed in 22 cities. Geared specifically towards youth employment in situations of exclusion and with low or no qualifications, it has the support of 40 leading companies such as Auchan, Eroski, E. Leclerc, Gestamp ... among many others. It has served more than 1,000 young people and achieved 45% of employment, plus 30% resume their studies. “Learning by doing” gets a significant impact on improving the living conditions of youngsters and their families.
Another of the pillars of the work of the FSG is education focusing to improve the early school dropout figures presented by Roma students (64%, versus 25% of the majority population). Promociona education program: for school success and continuity in studies. It gets a graduating rates of 77% of the students who participate in it. 86.6% of them continue their post-compulsory education. In 2014, Promociona worked with 1,357 students and 1,148 families in 384 Teaching Institutions, with the launch of 100 Promociona classrooms.
Throughout its history, has received recognition for his work from various bodies and institutions. Including the Golden Cross of the Civil Order of Solidarity, the Imserso "Infanta Cristina" Award for quality of life and the "Youth for Social Work 2003" of the Community of Madrid, among other awards. It also has references and good practices European recognition as some of its projects.
