"Barabaripen" is the result of a project that includes several interviews and meetings with Roma youth from eight European countries: Albania, Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Spain and the UK. In this research, Roma youth share their personal stories of multiple discrimination. Each life story is accompanied by a summary for learning and questions for reflection.
The project specifically addressed the following grounds of discrimination: ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity and migrant status. It also took into account aspects of how these young people live their lives within their community and beyond this: how they deal with, and what strategies have against the discriminatory attitudes they often suffer.
The objectives are to introduce the reality of young Roma who face multiple discrimination, explore the factors, mechanisms and consequences of multiple discrimination, provide those working with young people in schools a tool for rights education and make proposals, including at political level, to improve the situation of the Roma Youth on multiple discrimination.
The publication is intended to be used as an advocacy tool for a variety of purposes: education, campaigning ... It can be used by doctors, and especially for people who work with youth (teachers, youth leaders, members of NGOs, etc.) likewise policymakers and researchers are also possible recipients of this publication.
