Background
The Roma community is an essentially European minority by nature, whose population is unequally distributed by all European countries and, however, their awareness of being European citizens is still very weak. Their traditional lack of training and their development outside society in many cases has provoked that the information on the European process we are living does not reach them and, therefore, they do not feel that it is also their process.
Aims
This project has as main objective to favour the capacity of young Roma in the exercise of their citizenship at European level, informing and training young Roma to encourage them and to involve them in the European processes and dynamics, placing them in equal conditions as the rest of European young and citizens.
Activities
Through training and capacity building actions on European citizenship, the edition of informative materials, such as leaflets and posters, the launching of a web page and a forum exclusive for the project, the celebration of the Europe’s Day, the publication of the didactic guide “Roma youth: European citizenship” and the organisation of two study visits to Strasborug and Brussels respectively, the project intends to get the Roma youth nearer to the idea of Europe, its citizenship, its values, resources, participation mechanisms, etc.
This website has been developed in the framework of the project "Roma Youth - European Citizenship" funded by the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency within the "Youth" Programme developed by the European Commission.
